DanDy

Royal Never Give Up announced on Chinese social media site, Weibo, DanDy would be joining the team as their new head coach. This new comes as a surprise considering DanDy has no coaching experience and most recently concluded a poor run in the NA CS, where his team failed to qualify for the 2018 NA LCS.

Glory days

Starting his career in 2012, DanDy was regarded as an extremely promising young Jungler in the LCK. In May of 2012, DanDy was picked up by his first major organisation, MVP Ozone, a massive force in the Korea competitive League of Legends scene at the time. There, he found a fair amount of success as the team’s Jungler, with the team securing the top spot in the 2013 Champion Spring Split, and third in the Champions Summer split.

After a successful year and a half with MVP Ozone, DanDy was picked up by Samsung White. 2014 was the year where DanDy truly stunned everyone, with an appearance at worlds in only his second year of competitive play. He truly lived up to the hype, placing immense pressure on all his opponents, later going on with Samsung to take out the 2014 League of Legends World Championships.

Move to China & North America

Being crowned as World Champions, the players of Samsung White disbanded and joined different teams. Dandy signed with Vici Gaming, a bold move considering he would be for the first time, playing for an international team. While DanDy continued to play well, Vici Gaming’s results were below expectations, likely due to the lack of communication between himself and the other Chinese players.

As a result, after two years with the team, Dandy signed with eUnited, a North American organisation that had been competing in the NA CS. While the team placed second in the NA CS, they failed to qualify for a spot in the NA LCS, losing 0-3 to Phoenix 1.

Coming back

This head coach deal with DanDy signifies his return, to not only China, but the League of Legends competitive scene as a whole given his break in 2018. While Dandy will not be playing competitively anymore, his experience with various teams, and especially as a former world champion will certainly help RNG finally take the top spot in worlds.
