Everything we know so far: plot, champions, release date

Set in two key regions in Runterra – the port city of Bilgewater and the mysterious Shadow Isles, the narrative-driven game invites players to unite a party of League of Legends Champions to fight the enemy, while also solving puzzles, avoiding traps and uncovering secrets and mysteries.

According to the recently released gameplay trailer, Ruined King is turn-based exploration and combat based game. Champions take turns casting their abilities, and you will likely need to plan ahead how to use em’ to dominate combat. The standard health, mana, an overcharge bar are present as well as and a turn order list. You Champions level up as you plow along, improving their stats and abilities.

Six playable characters are presented with the announcement – Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Pyke, Ahri and Yasuo. The game also has several champions from League of Legends and Runeterra that appear as cameos or enemies including Gangplank, Maokai and Thresh.

With Ruined King we will get to delve into the characters’ individual storylines, yet according to legendary comic book artist and CEO of Airship Syndicate Joe Madureira, the stories will tie into the LoL universe at large.

“Ruined King is a single-player turn-based RPG and it takes place in current League of Legends lore. It was very important to tie into the current life and events and timelines of the Champions, and factoring in everything Riot is doing and where it’s going. We’ve created a story that sort of, furthers these Champions in their own individual storylines, and still ties into the universe at large,” Madureira told Gamereactor in an interview.

Riot hasn’t specified the release date yet; however Ruined King is expected to be released in early 2021.

According to Riot, Ruined King is set to be the first single-player game to bring the LoL universe to both consoles and PC. Ruined King will be released in early 2021, and will be available on the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Windows PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
