King of Battles Qualifiers Kick Off This Weekend

While the main tournament for King of Battles is still a bit off, starting on April 28th, there are still some matches that might be just the thing you need to fill that hunger for some good Starcraft 2 gameplay. Those games are the King of Battles Qualifiers for all the three regions that will participate in the tournament.

Format for Qualifiers

The format is the same for all three regions, which is a Double-elimination bracket. All of the matches are best-of-three, which means there will be quite a lot of games to be played out. You can catch most of the games on twitch.tv/alphaxsc2 and twitch.tv/somedrunkcanadian. The games will mostly try to follow the favorites of the tournament. Maps played are:

  • 2000 Atmospheres
  • Berlingrad
  • Blackburn
  • Curious Minds
  • Glittering Ashes
  • Hardwire
  • Pride of Altaris

Qualifiers in Europe

There are going to be a total of 6 players coming to the main event from qualifiers from the European region. Since there are two qualifiers, the top 3 players from each qualifier will be able to proceed further into the tournament. The first qualifier has already been played out on April 10th, and the second one will take place on April 13th.

Qualifiers in Korea

As a region that is kind of the staple and home of Starcraft, it is only natural that Korea also brings six best players to the main stage from its qualifiers. The qualifiers for the Korean region will be played out on April 12th and 19th, and just like for Europe, the top 3 from each qualifier will advance.

Qualifiers in America

Since the Americas is a smaller and weaker region, it, unfortunately, has only 3 spots for the main event when it comes to King of Battles. Because of that, there is going to be only a single qualifier tournament which will take place on April 24th.
