Blizzard Introduces WoW Variety Show

Well, wouldn’t you know, Blizzard seems to be trying something new, which is very exciting. It has been quite a while since Blizzard innovated when it comes to the competitive WoW scene, and the WoW Variety Show might be the thing that brings new life into the game and also returns old players to the game too.

What is the WoW Variety Show

When it comes to WoW esports, people are used to only two kinds of events organized by Blizzard themselves; the first one being the WoW Arena PVP events and the second being the Mythic Dungeon Invitational (and the Great Push) PVE events.

The WoW Variety Show seems to be spicing up the competitive aspect and considering that there is a WoW Darkmoon Faire theme on the official post, it certainly looks promising. The excitement of this event is even bigger once you read the categories that players will be competing in :

• Leveling
• Scavenger Hunt
• Footrace Through Azeroth

How does the leveling competition work?

While the WoW Variety show will have events that will let pretty much anyone register (as long as they are on American servers), when it comes to the leveling event, this one will feature only four Warcraft Celebrity Contestants, who are yet to be revealed.

In the leveling competition, the four mystery contestants will have one hour to level a fresh character as high as possible while having some additional tasks and challenges in their path. Watching someone level in WoW is probably the most tedious part of the game. Still, when competition and prizes are involved, things are more exciting, especially if the tasks are chaotic.

One important thing to add is that the race will be done on live realms, which will probably not stop the WoW community from intervening unless a special layer is added.

What is a scavenger hunt?

One thing that everyone will agree Blizzard has been doing a phenomenal job at, no matter the expansion and the state of the game, are puzzles and scavenger hunts. Whether you have been doing riddles to get the Lucid Nightmare mount, the Waist of Time, or the Hivemind mount, all of those experiences have been brilliant, which is why the scavenger hunt might be the most interesting part of the WoW Variety Show.

For this event, anyone can sign up with a group of five people, and this competition promises to throw riddles, puzzles, and various things to find what only the most experienced World of Warcraft fans can do. There will be multiple scavenger tasks, and the winner will be the group that does the most.

Footrace Through Azeroth

You might be familiar with the micro-holiday called The Great Gnomeregan Run, where Alliance players can turn into gnomes and then go on a journey from Dun Morogh to Booty Bay. Well, the Footrace Through Azeroth will have a similar concept, but it will allow ground mounts.

It is possible to sign up for this one on your own, and if you know all the shortcuts and best ways to get from one place to another without the use of flying, winning this one might be the easier of the two events.

What are the prizes?

Since WoW is one of the best MMORPG games out there, we can expect some stunning prizes. According to Blizzard, the prizes will be “a variety of in-game goodies–Game Time, Mounts, Pets, and some special surprises–to players throughout the broadcast,” which should be more than enough to motivate you to tune in or participate.
