PMWI 2022 Main Tournament: Top 3 teams to watch out for

The PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) 2022 is taking place over two weeks from Aug. 11 to 20. The Main Tournament, however, will happen in the first week from Aug. 18 to 20.

Sixteen teams from around the will be fighting from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during Gamers8 to crown a PMWI champion. Besides the bragging rights, a prize pool of $2 million is also on the line. Here’s my shortlist of three teams you should definitely be watching out for.

Regans Gaming roster

Regans Gaming: The sole Chinese representatives at the PMWI 2022

Battle royale titles are unpredictable and it’s nearly impossible to say who will win the title – especially with a short format of just three days. However, any Chinese team in a global competition for PUBG Mobile will be a team to look out for. Why’s that?

China is on a different level with PUBG Mobile esports. In the country, the game is called Peacekeeper Elite and has a proper franchised league. This infrastructure has enabled China to dominate on the global stage and they’ve won the past two Global Championships (PMGC).

Regans Gaming are individually looking strong as well after winning the Peacekeeper Elite League (PEL) Spring Season. The finals were an intense one but Regans came out on top even above the reigning world champions Nova Esports.

Regans Gaming’s roster is as follows:

  • Liu Zihang
  • Zhang Hongzhi
  • Huo Pengke
  • Yang Ting
  • Xiao Zhen

Vampire Esports: The Thai Champions

The PMPL Spring 2022 Thailand champions are another team to watch out for in the PMWI 2022 Main Tournament. Vampire have been in great form recently. Firstly, they put up an amazing performance in the spring split of the PMPL Thailand and topped the tables. They were 20 points clear of the second-placed teams.

Additionally, Vampire were impressive during the PMPL SEA Championship, where they finished in second place. Vampire were close to winning the championship too but fell just 14 points short at the end.

The team’s roster is as follows:

  • Thanarat “Ravenclaw” Makhotsa
  • Natchapone “Fluketh” Somtus
  • Spachai “SchwepXz” Singkaew
  • Kritsada “2Stopz” Penglek
  • Purin “Stoned” Rongkhankaew

Team Soul: First Indian team to be playing a global tournament in two years

Team Soul's roster in the PMWI 2022

For the first time in over two years, the PMWI 2022 will feature an Indian team battling for the title. India has been one of the most popular regions for PUBG Mobile, or as it’s locally called: Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).

With this, the team is carrying an entire nation’s hopes in the PMWI 2022. Furthermore, PUBG Mobile has been banned again in India so this might be the last esports tournament for the game a team from the South Asian country gets to participate in.

Team Soul qualified for the PMWI 2022 after winning the Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) Pro Series. They dominated in the BMPS Finals with 10 top-two finishes from 24 matches, five of which were chicken dinners. In the end, they were 85 clear of the second-placed team in the standings.

Team Soul’s roster is as follows:

  • Akshat Goel
  • Sahil “Omega” Jakhar
  • Harsh “Goblin” Paudwal
  • Sohail “Hector” Shaikh
