PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022 to feature a $4 million prize pool

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship (PMGC) 2022 will feature a prize pool of $4 million, Tencent confirmed in a press release yesterday. The PMGC is the year-end event for the PUBG Mobile esports calendar.

It’s here where teams from around the world will battle out to crown a world champion.

PMGC PMWI Prize Pool

The PMGC 2022’s prize pool is lesser than last year’s

The PMGC 2022 has a huge prize pool of $4 million, but this is $2 million less than the $6 million prize pool which was allotted to the event last year. It’s unclear why there has been a reduction in the prize pool this year. Tencent hasn’t revealed any other details about the PMGC yet. In the PUBG Mobile esports roadmap r for 2022, the company had said that the PMGC will happen from December 2021 to January 2022.

The roadmap’s schedule has been mixed up, though, with the PMWI happening in August instead of June and the postponement of the Asian Games.

Top teams from the PMPL will make it to the PMGC 2022

The top teams from each of the Pro Leagues (PMPLs) will make it to the PMGC 2022. The slot distribution hasn’t been revealed yet. Tencent has only revealed the schedule for the fall season of the PMPLs. The 13 Pro Leagues will happen between June 20 and Oct. 2. From here, the top teams will compete in the five PMPL Regional Championships which happen for the Middle East and Africa, SEA, Americas, Europe, and South Asia regions.

The qualification criteria for the PMGC 2022 haven’t been revealed yet either. Last year, the top team from the regional championships made it to the event.

Will the PMGC 2022 be a LAN event?

Since the PMGC was launched in 2020, Tencent hasn’t been able to host it as a LAN event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The PMGC 2020 Finals were supposed to be a LAN event at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The players had even traveled to the Middle Eastern country to compete in the event. However, after a few players tested positive for COVID-19, all teams had to play from their hotel rooms.

With the pandemic situation improving and the announcement of the PUBG Mobile World Invitational (PMWI) in Saudi Arabia, fans will be hoping that the grandest PUBG Mobile esports event on the calendar will take place as an offline event.

PMWI 2022 will happen from Aug. 11 to 20 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Tencent has also revealed that the anticipated PUBG Mobile World Invitational will take place in Riyadh from Aug. 11 to 20. Twenty teams from around the world will be traveling to the Middle Eastern country to compete for a share of the $3 million prize pool. The PMWI has a unique two-week format with week one consisting of the main tournament. The main tournament will reward $2 million of the prize pool as the 20 teams lock horns from Aug. 11 to 13 to become the winners.

The second week will take place from Aug. 18 to 20. This week is called the Afterparty Showdown with only 12 teams competing. This includes the top five teams from week one, six chosen teams from different regions, and a single special invite.
