Warzone’s Final Season: Last Stand Will Bring an End to Caldera

It has been revealed that the final season for Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone will commence on August 24th. In a dramatic ending to a rather tumultuous chapter in Warzone’s story, all things will come to an end in Caldera with the release of the Last Stand update. As a last hurrah for Warzone, which launched back in March of 2020, iconic Call of Duty characters are being re-introduced to the franchise as operators.

When the Last Stand update drops on August 24th, it’ll mark the official end of the lifecycles for both Vanguard and Warzone. With the impending launches of Modern Warfare II and Warzone 2, these titles will fade away into the archives of Call of Duty, likely never to be seen again. As far as we know, Call of Duty: Warzone will be taken offline immediately before the release of Warzone 2, as it’ll become a totally obsolete title.

But it isn’t over yet – Caldera is owed one Last Stand.

On August 24th, Warzone fans will be able to unlock four iconic Call of Duty characters as operators:

  • Raul Menendez
  • Khaled Al-Asad
  • Gabriel T. Rorke
  • He ‘Seraph’ Zhen-Zhen

As a collective, players will drop into Caldera to experience an entirely new event, built as a farewell to what many believe is the worst Warzone map to ever exist. For almost a year, there have been concerns that Call of Duty is dying, and Caldera is seen as a key factor in that debate. From August 24th, players can either ‘wreak havoc or defend the island’ as the peak at the centre of the map ignites and erupts in true, volcanic fashion.

This is Operation: Last Call, and it’s the last players will see of Caldera, especially if the rumours are true that Warzone 2 will launch in November of this year.

There’s a range of bonuses included in the update, at the heart of which sits five new weapons:

  • BP50, which is essentially the F2000 from Modern Warfare 2 (2009)
  • EX1, an energy rifle taken from Advanced Warfare
  • RA 225, a small but mighty SMG
  • Lienna 57, a standard AR
  • Valois Revolver, a bizarre knife-revolver combo weapon

Bursting At The Seams

So, outside of the new operators and all the new weaponry, what else is coming in the Last Stand update on the 24th of August?

There are two new maps coming to Vanguard – the last maps that the fans of the game will ever see, in fact. There’s Beheaded, a New York-themed map that’s slightly post-apocalyptic, and Fortress, a close-quarters map set in the Mediterranean.

With Operation: Last Call bringing a close to the Caldera environment, no cost has been spared in making the event as wild as possible. There are transformed POIs, a new Gulag, mysterious ‘seismic devices’, and a ‘Rage Serum’ that will allow players to become ‘violently unstable’. This is all built around a seasonal event titled Heroes vs. Villains, which should be fairly self-explanatory.

Finally, for fans of Call of Duty: Zombies, there’s a final event coming called The Archon, which will bring to a close the Vanguard-based arc for the ever-popular mode.

The Last Stand update drops on August 24th.
